Nike Air Max 2009- Leather SI

Just when I think a sneaker company is heading in one direction they pull a stunt and it throws me off. Nike has done that with the Air Max 2009. The sneaker is so basic and plain, but in a world where shoes have become increasingly more complicated and out there these are refreshing. It helps that I am a huge fan of the Air Max collection. So, let’s take a gander at these babies.

The entire sneaker is done up in white leather (a classic), but there is some nice criss-cross detailing on the side that brings a little bit of interest to the sneaker. The Swoosh is done nice and small, which, personally I am loving. The outsole is where all the complicated detailing is done, which is really different and interesting. A red ribbed section fades into a white strip before a clear outsole. Now I must admit I’m a pretty big fan of clear soles. There is something about them that makes me happy, but a sneaker has to be clean to make it work, and this pair works.

The front is uncomplicated as well. There is nothing major going on. The toebox is divided into two sections straight down the middle, but that is pretty typical on a running sneaker. The lacing is done in white with white loops, again nothing major going on.You can tell by this picture that the sole has a nice traction system on the bottom which makes it obvious that this sneaker was designed for actual runners, not people who just love wearing running sneakers while standing around.

The back throws a bit of a curve ball, but I’m not desperately in love with it. I don’t get why Nike went with a light grey heel on a sneaker that is otherwise completely white and red. I would have been happier to see a red heel with a white logo, that would have made sense. Sadly, the grey doesn’t make sense at all to me, but it doesn’t ruin the shoe for me at all. I still love it and I still think they are CIK-worthy.
