LIVESTRONG x Nike Sportswear Air Max 1 and 90

Wow, all I can say after getting a glimpse of these new Lance Armstrong inspired Air Max 1 and Air Max 90 joints, is ‘absolutely off the hook’. From what I can see somebody at Nike Sportswear just got a big,fat raise this year or at least deserves one considering what they’ve done here with the Air Max One and Air Max Ninety in cooperation with the Livestrong foundation; other top notch recent work from Nike Sportswear includes the Brazil and Football inspired ‘Canarinho’ pack and a recent dope colorway of the Air Max Light I in gray/blue with touches of red and gold.

The name of this pack says it all ‘Live Strong’ and could a human being have been born with a more appropriate last name than Lance ‘Arm Strong’ although I guess he could have been called ‘Leg Strong’ as that’s how he made a name for himself by crushing the competition on the mountainous regions of the Tour De France and winning innumerable Yellow jerseys in the process.

Lance apparently figured he looked guy in Yellow as he went on to win, sorry make that own, the Tour De France from 1999-2005. In fact in American culture in some circles he has garnered the nickname Mellow Johnny in reference to his mispronunciation, make that butchering, of the French term ‘Maillot jaune’ or ‘yellow jersey’ in English. It would appear Johnny’s linguistic skills are not on a par with his cycling ability; no worries Jean, nobody has it all.

Ok I’ve gotten my kicks so now on to the real issue here the kicks. While Lance was racking up enough Yellow jerseys in the early part of the Millennium to wear a different yet identical shirt for every day of the work week reminiscent of the legendary Fred Flintstone; who would have looked pretty fly in an Air Max 95 supreme “animal pack” kick to go with his trusty leopard print one piece tunic. While Lance was busy filling his wardrobe with yellow jersey after yellow jersey Nike Sportswear was putting together shoe ideas to help him accessorize once he got finished cycling and what they came up with is very impressive indeed.

As Mr ‘Arm Strong’ continues to ‘Live Strong’ and inspire a whole new generation of yellow band wearing Life Enthusiasts, Nike continues to excite a whole new legion of Sneaker lovers with their latest Air Max releases from the Live Strong X Nike Sportswear pack; most notably the Air Max 1 and 90 models respectively.

First up we’ve got the superb mostly black Air Max 1 with yellow highlights. The black premium leather with a yellow sole, yellow eyelets, yellow air sole unit, yellow swoosh, yellow paint speckles on the midsole and the yellow ‘live strong’ tongue message combines to create a little pack of dynamite ready to explode and makes a statement as Strong as any Lance Armstrong cycling performance.

The Live Strong Air Max 90 is also functional, fashion forward, fresh, fun, futuristic, fast and free footwear from Nike Sportswear that will knock your socks off (as style would dictate). The Air Max 90 is a little longer and sleeker than the Air Max 1 and just as dynamic with a more even balance of gray, black and yellow and a similar speckled midsole. This joint employs less leather and more synthetic materials such as firm yet bendy plastic and lots of breathable mesh on the side panels and tongue for superior ventilation.

It would appear that Nike is going to make a few bucks off this Lance Armstrong pack yet in these dark,troubled times if they can help get the word out about the LiveStrong Foundation and their mission to ‘inspire and empower’ people whose lives are affected by cancer then more power to them. The motto of the LSF is “unity is strength, knowledge is power and attitude is everything” and who better embodies those beliefs than Lance Armstrong himself. The man has inspired millions of people in his fight against cancer and his battle against the elements and his competition in countless Cycling races.

If you’re able to pick up a pair of kicks as fresh as the Air Max 90s and 1s from the LiveStrong pack and contribute something to a good cause at the same time then get yourself measured by a tailor and take a look at how you look in Yellow because everyone’s a winner here.
